DETROIT, MI – A 24-year-old man was shot and killed on Detroit’s east side while out canvassing a neighborhood for the nonprofit organization Good Jobs Now.
The 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were ambushed in the 6000 block of Drexel while passing out political flyers, at approximately 6:50PM, when a gunman came out from between two houses and started firing his weapon.
The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old woman was rushed to a local area hospital where she initially was listed in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
Detroit Police have stated that the shooting was not a random act of violence. The victim had felt uncomfortable being in the neighborhood. It is believed that there was a prior incident between the gunman and the victim that lead up to the shooting.
No suspects are in custody at this time and no description has been provided. Please check back for any updates.
