LUDINGTON, MI – A 20-year-old Mason County man was struck and killed by three separate vehicles while trying to cross US-10.
On Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 7:33 PM emergency crews responded to a serious traffic crash on US-10 east of Brye Road in front of Applebee’s Restaurant in Mason County’s Amber Township.
The crash involved a pedestrian and three vehicles and resulted in fatal injuries to the pedestrian.
The investigation revealed a 20 year-old Pentwater man was walking north to south across US10 not in a crosswalk (which was approximately 700 feet west) wearing dark clothing. The man crossed the westbound lanes of US10 and the center turn lane before being struck by an eastbound 2010 Ford F-150 pickup traveling in the inside lane. The pedestrian then landed in the outside lane (curb lane) and was struck by a 2012 Chevy Silverado pickup and a 2005 Dodge Neon.
The deceased has been identified as Jordan James, 20-years-old, of Pentwater MI. He would have turned 21 on Sunday. The driver of the Ford F-150 is a 45-year-old Scottville man, the driver of the Chevy Silverado is a 46 year-old man from Jackson MI, and the driver of the Dodge Neon is a 25year-old female from Scottville.
All cooperated with investigators and submitted to blood tests.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been contributing factors. One witness described the victim as being on his cell phone, holding it up to his right ear, while crossing the highway. All three vehicles, which struck the victim, were coming from that direction.
The Michigan State Police-Hart Post, Pere Marquette Fire, Scottville Fire, Ludington Fire, and Life EMS also responded to the scene.
