SAINT CLAIR SHORES, MI – Theoddeus Gray has been identified as the man who shot and killed St. Clair Shores Officer K9 Axe on Sunday, November 4th, 2018.
Police identified Theoddeus Gray, 29-years-old, of Detroit, as the man who allegedly shot a St. Clair Shores police dog Sunday evening.
On November 4th, 2018, at approximately 6:22PM, the St. Clair Shores Police Department received a 911 call from Lakeland Manor banquet hall located at 26211 Harper Avenue regarding a man with a gun.
The initial information received from the caller was that a black man wearing a white shirt was armed with a long gun outside of the facility. Inside of the banquet hall were 70 guests who were there attending a baby shower.
Upon arrival a man matching the description of Theoddeus Gray was seen standing outside of the banquet hall. Gray ignored several demands from officers. He then tried to flee on foot.
St. Clair Shores K9 Axe was deployed and upon confronting the suspect, he fired shots which struck Officer K9 Axe. Officers returned gunfire shooting and killing Theoddeus Gray.
Officer K-9 Axe was taken to a vet in Madison Heights. Sadly Officer K9 Axe died from his injuries.
On social media today there were several posts from various police agencies across the country sending condolences to the St. Clair Shores Police Department on the tragic loss of a member of their team. Residents of St. Clair Shores and the surrounding areas were stopping by the police station to leave flowers and other items as a remembrance to Officer K9 Axe. He is being treated as a true hero with flags lowered to half staff outside of the police station in his honor.
This is an ongoing investigation and will be handled by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department.
