Charges Issued For Troy Homicide Suspect

TROY, MI – Nayir Masrur of Troy, 20 years old, has been charged with first degree murder in relation to a November 12 homicide that happened in the 6500 block of Shoreline, Troy. Masrur was arraigned this afternoon at 52-4 District Court and bond was denied.MASRUR, NAYIR MUHAMMAD

Troy Police received a 911 call for an ambulance to a residence on Shoreline at approximately 2:30 p.m. on November 12 regarding a severely injured woman. Officers and an ambulance arrived and determined the victim, 55 year old Rubab Huq, was deceased.

Prior to the call for an ambulance, Troy Police received a call regarding Masrur. The caller, another family member, reported that Masrur was missing and in an agitated state.

An officer searching for Masrur in response to the missing persons call observed him at another residence on Shoreline. Masrur jumped from a second story window and fled through the neighborhood.

As the officer was searching for Masrur, he was summoned to the basement of the home Masrur had just left by another family member. At that time, the victim was discovered to be deceased.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Masrur had struck Huq in the head with an approximately 15 pound dumbbell in the basement of the home. Huq is Masrur’s aunt.

Masrur was located by Troy officers hiding in a marshy area near the residence where the homicide occurred approximately one hour after the initial call.

A “lockdown” was ordered at four area schools during the search for the suspect, as the students live in the area where the search was occurring. The schools included Smith Middle School, Larson Middle School, Troy Union Elementary School and Wass Elementary School.

The Troy Police Department wishes to express their deepest sympathies to the family of Rubab Huq. Dr. Huq is reported to be a mother, a physician and much valued community member.

Troy officers were assisted by the Shelby Township Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in the search for the suspect.
