Victims Identified in Monroe County Car Crash on US-23

SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A single vehicle crash claimed the life of both the driver and the passenger on southbound US-23. They have now been identified.fatal crash

A single vehicle traffic crash is being reported, which resulted in two fatalities, on southbound US23, South of Ida West Road, in Summerfield Township. The crash occurred on Sunday, November 11th, 2018, at approximately 9:55PM.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Stephanie L. Sundberg, age 33, of Dundee, Michigan, was operating a maroon 2004 Buick Rainier, southbound on US23, when she lost control of the vehicle.

After losing control, the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and impacted a tree. Steven P. Luke, age 29, of Maumee, Ohio was a front seat passenger in the vehicle.

Both Ms. Sundberg and Mr. Luke were pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

Members of the Summerfield Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office – Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7715.
