GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday November 15th, 2018, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a medical call at the Dogwood Ct address in Grand Haven Township.
The medical response indicated an 8 month old girl, Scarlett Rae-Marie Burroughs, was in seizure. Deputies along with medical personnel responded to the scene and Scarlett was taken to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. Deputies noted some concerning factors at the scene and based upon the initial medical evaluation at the hospital an investigation began with detectives. Through the course of the last several days the child’s condition worsened and Scarlett Burroughs did die over this past weekend.
Investigators continued the inquiry into the facts surrounding this incident while a forensic autopsy was performed on Tuesday morning November 20th, 2018. The results of that autopsy showed the Scarlett Rae-Marie Burroughs death was caused from cranio cerebral trauma, and the manner of death will be ruled a homicide.
That suspect is the boyfriend of the deceased child’s mother. The suspect had been watching the 8 month old while the mother was at work.
The suspect is in the Ottawa County Jail where he is awaiting arraignment on the charges. His name will be released after arraignment.
