GAYLORD, MI – MSP Troopers from the Gaylord Post arrested a Gaylord woman for 1st Degree Home Invasion and several other charges following an incident in Otsego County on November 24th, 2018.
Gaylord Troopers were sent to a Chester Township residence in Otsego County at about 7:30PM regarding a home invasion. The caller reported that 35-year-old Jennifer Smith, of Gaylord, entered a residence uninvited and had assaulted the occupants of the home.
Upon arriving at the scene, troopers discovered that Smith had been drinking and had driven to the residence without notifying the occupants of her impending arrival. Witnesses advised that her 2-year-old daughter and ex-boyfriend were inside the residence and that Smith had apparently went to the location to get her daughter.
She entered the house several times and allegedly assaulted one of the individuals inside while doing so. During her attempts, she reportedly damaged a screen door and other items.
Troopers arrested the woman based on the evidence at the scene. During her arrest and subsequent processing, she resisted and on two occasions kicked and assaulted the troopers. After being medically cleared at Otsego Memorial Hospital, Smith was lodged in the Otsego County Jail.
The Otsego County Prosecutor charged Jennifer Smith with the following:
- Home Invasion 1st Degree
- 2 Counts of Assaulting a Police Officer
- Assault and Battery
- MDOP to a Building
- MDOP Personal Property
She was arraigned yesterday in the 87th District Court in Gaylord. She was given a $20,000/10% Bond.
