MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – During a press conference today, Wednesday November 27th, 2018, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham discussed the findings of the investigation that was completed concerning the shooting death of Theoddeus Gray by St. Clair Shores Police and the shooting of Officer K9 Axe on November 4th at the Lakeland Manor banquet hall located at 26211 Harper Avenue.
It was determined that the officer involved shooting of Theoddeus Gray was justified.
There were a couple of main questions that many have wanted answered:
Did Theoddeus Gray have a weapon? Yes
Did Theoddeus Gray shoot and kill K9 Axe?
It is still unknown at this time who shot K9 Axe. Police initially had said Gray shot the dog, but Wickersham said Wednesday during the news conference it was possible the K-9 had been fatally wounded by police during the confrontation with Theoddeus Gray. “It’s unknown who shot the dog but officers were firing because they had been fired upon,” he said.
How many guns did Theoddeus Gray have in his possession at the time of the shooting?
He had one weapon. However, a fully loaded AK47 was recovered from behind the banquet hall. “Gray went there expecting a fight, a confrontation,” said Sheriff Wickersham, as he shared information that a confidential informant told the FBI. He went on to say “There was going to be a shootout in St. Clair Shores that Sunday night”.
An FN 5.7 handgun was found underneath Gray’s body. A single round was fired from the weapon before it apparently jammed. The investigation revealed that several who were attending the baby shower were also armed.
Ballistics reports are still pending but Wickersham said Gray died from six gunshots to the head, back and legs.
