PETOSKEY, MI – Holley Hibbler, 37-years-old, of Petoskey, has pleaded no contest to one count of reckless driving causing death of a 9-year-old boy. Holley Hibbler

Sharon Myers and her son Samuel Myers were struck by Holley Hibblers vehicle on August 8th, 2019, as they walked their bikes along Maxwell Road in Emmet County’s Springvale Township. 9-year-old Samuel was taken to a local area hospital. He was then flown to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids where he later died as a result of the injuries. Sharon Myers was treated for minor injuries

In a press release issued by Michigan State Police at the time of the crash, they indicated that drugs or alcohol may have factored into the accident.

Hibbler was charged and arraigned on Tuesday with one count of reckless driving causing death. She then entered the plea of no contest to the felony charge at a 1:30 p.m. hearing before Emmet County’s Circuit Court Judge Charles W. Johnson. She could face up to 15 years in prison.

Hibbler’s plea came as a result of an agreement with prosecutors handling the case. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such during sentencing.

No date has been scheduled as to when she will be sentenced.
