DETROIT, MI – A male suspect was taken into custody in connection with an illegal tire dumping incident that took place on the city’s westside.
On November 19th, 2018, at approximately 12:20 p.m., an officer observed the driver of a black Ford Explorer with a large trailer full of tires going west on Grand River. The officer also observed that the vehicle did not have a plate. The officer followed the driver until it stopped at a vacant lot in the area of Grand River and Jefferies.
While at the location, the suspect exited the vehicle, then begin dumping tires from the trailer onto the lot. The suspect was investigated and arrested for Driving While License Suspended (DWLS), and conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center without incident. His vehicle and trailer were impounded under the Blight Code and he was issued a Blight Violation for $1,000. Later he was released on pending charges and further investigation.
Investigators submitted a warrant package to the Wayne County Prosecuting Office for review, and was approved for the following charges:
Five (5) counts of Scrap Tire Violation involving 50 or more tires.
The suspect, identified as 40-year old Karondi Hernton, was arraigned on these charges on December 3, 2018, and issued a $10,000 bond. His pretrial date is scheduled for December 10.
