KALKASKA, MI – A Sterling Heights woman was arrested by the MSP Second District Fugitive Team following a lengthy investigation into counterfeit checks. Carly Clark was charged with a felony related to the alleged counterfeiting and cashing of checks related to a Kalkaska area business.
Troopers from the MSP Houghton Lake Post began a lengthy investigation into bad checks back in August of 2017.
A representative with Kalkaska Screw Products, Inc. reported that someone had counterfeited and cashed some of their checks in the Detroit metro area. KSP primarily serves the automotive, aerospace and heavy truck industries. Many of their products are used in safety related applications that require high levels of precision and with zero defects.
KSP launched their own investigation where they learned that the total of the checks exceeded $2500. Kalkaska Screw Products employees developed a possible suspect on social media. That information was then turned over to Michigan State Police.
MSP Troopers armed with the initial investigation by KSP employees looked at bank records and surveillance video where they determined that the crimes occurred in Macomb County. Troopers turned over their findings of the investigation to the Macomb County Prosecutor who issued a felony warrant for 23-year-old Carly Marie Clark of Sterling Heights. The Michigan State Police Second District Fugitive Apprehension Team was contacted. They located and arrested Carly Clark on November 28th, 2018.
Clark was immediately taken to Macomb County District Court the same day. She was charged with Uttering and Publishing. Carly was given a $2,500 /10% bond. However she is being held on charges for the same types of crime of Uttering and Publishing out of Eastpointe and Troy.
