HAMTRAMCK, MI – A fire in a home early Friday morning in Hamtramck had firefighters scramble to rescue occupants that were trapped inside the blaze. One 2 year old child has died from their injuries.
On December 7th, 2018, at approximately 12:45AM, a home in the 13100 block of Mackay Street in Hamtramck went up in flames. The home was occupied and had children reportedly trapped inside.
Personnel from Hamtramck Fire, Highland Park Fire, Detroit Fire departments, along with Detroit EMS and Detroit Police responded to the structure fire.
Once on scene, first responders reportedly were informed that children were still inside the home and possibly an adult was also trapped in the flames.
A search of the dwelling found a 20 year old woman that needed to be rescued and that two children had also been brought out of the house. A total of five individuals, three adults and two children, a 2 and 3 year old, were transported to area hospitals with injuries. A 20 year old woman is in critical condition. One firefighter was also transported to the hospital with burns.
The arson squad arrived on scene to determine what may have sparked the blaze. The flames were out by 2:15AM and crews were beginning to leave the scene and return to their respective stations.
