REED CITY, MI – On Sunday December 9th, 2018, at 2:34PM, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post were dispatched to a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash on Southbound US-131 Fwy. near 22 Mile Rd., Green Twp.
The investigation reveals that a tow truck driven by a 22-year-old male from Paris, MI was south on US-131 Fwy. and turning left into the median turn around; when a passenger vehicle also traveling south in the left lane rear-ended the tow truck.
The passenger vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old Cadillac woman. The driver’s 14-month toddler was also in the vehicle and secured in a car seat in the back seat. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene, but the child survived without any injury.
US-131 Fwy. southbound was closed due to the crash for about 3 ½ hours while traffic was re-routed. The crash is still under investigation.
Troopers were assisted on scene, by the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department, Big Rapids City Fire Department, and the Mecosta County EMS.
Walmart of Big Rapids compassionately donated a new car seat to the family of the 14-month toddler.
