DETROIT, MI – Two undergraduate organizations on the campus of Wayne State University will be giving back to the community on Sunday, December 16th, 2018, as they will come together this holiday season to provide haircuts and hairstyling to the residents over at the Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS).
The Alpha Bets Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and the Alpha Eta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated will join forces to offer this gift to the residents of COTS free of charge.
The Alpha Beta Chapter Polemarch, Marcel Jones, is a recent initiate of the fraternity and members of the chapter come from the Wayne State campus, as well as from the University of Detroit-Mercy. “The fifth objective of Kappa Alpha Psi (To inspire service in the public interest) is why we are coming together to do this community initiative”, states Brother Jones.
Doing this project with Sigma Gamma Rho seems only natural as they also have a strong belief in giving back to the community. Ironically, both organizations were founded on college campuses in the State of Indiana; Kappa Alpha Psi at the University of Indiana in Bloomington and Sigma Gamma Rho at Butler University in Indianapolis. Collaborations between the two organizations are most often referred to as ‘Indy Love’.
As a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated; “Unfortunately, we see people going through different trials and tribulations on a daily basis. This is why we value our service to the community so deeply. For this reason, we will be joined by the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated this Sunday to provide the residents of COTS with an opportunity to get their hair done for the holiday season’, concluded Brother Jones.
