HILLMAN, MI – An Alpena man is facing charges related to fabricating criminal allegations against a school superintendent. 32-year-old Lee Rasmussen has been charged with Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, two counts of False Report of a Felony, and Criminal Slander.
On October 17th, 2018, a local police agency contacted the MSP Alpena Post and requested an investigation concerning an incident at Hillman Elementary School.
A trooper was assigned to investigate and learned that a school employee had reported receiving an email accusing the school superintendent of a criminal act. The sender of the email had not identified themselves, so work began to identify the potential victim. By the following day, the trooper had found evidence that the email had actually been sent by an angry IT technician employed by the school.
After completing interviews and investigating thoroughly, the trooper found no evidence to support that the superintendent was responsible for any wrong doing. In fact, the investigation revealed the superintendent was the victim of a malicious criminal act. The case was then sent to the Montmorency County Prosecutor for review.
Upon reviewing the case the prosecutor issued a felony warrant for 32-year-old Lee Adam Rasmussen of Alpena. The warrant charged Rasmussen with Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, two counts of False Report of a Felony and Criminal Slander. He was arrested on November 29th, 2018 and posted a $25,000/10% bond at that time.
Lee Rasmussen is to be arraigned in 88th District Court in Alpena today, Friday December 21st.
