BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday January 7th, 2019, at approximately 6:15pm, first responders were dispatched to eastbound I-94 at mile marker 34, Benton Township, for a reported vehicle hitting a person on the freeway.
Upon arrival, responders made contact with the 38 year old female driver, of Delton, who was the lone occupant of her vehicle, was uninjured. She believed she hit a man crossing I-94. Responders where able to locate the 33-year-old Coloma man who was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead while on scene.
Initial investigations appear as though the male was crossing I-94 and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The investigation at the scene suggests drugs and/or alcohol was not a contributing factor for the driver. The investigation is ongoing as to why the victim was on the roadway and his condition at the time of incident.
