Suspect in Critical Condition after Romulus Police Pursuit

ROMULUS, MI – The MSP Metro South Post was requested to handle a traffic crash investigation by the Romulus Police Department.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Sunday January 13th, 2019, at approximately 8:50PM, Romulus Police Officers were dispatched to a civil complaint.

The suspect in the complaint had taken his girlfriends vehicle without her permission. During the investigation it was learned he had warrants for his arrest. Romulus PD Officers located the suspect and the suspect vehicle on Middlebelt Rd near Eureka Rd.

Romulus officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at approximately 9 15 PM The suspect vehicle fled from them and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle fled northbound on Middlebelt Rd.

During the pursuit the suspect turned the vehicles lights off. Romulus Police terminated the pursuit near Middlebelt and Lorman St. The suspect vehicle continued to flee and struck an innocent civilian vehicle.

The suspect vehicle then lost control, hit a curb, and then hit a tree. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital along with a passenger who was also in the vehicle. The suspect is listed in critical condition. The passenger was listed in stable condition.
