DETROIT, MI – A male suspect was taken into custody in connection to an armed robbery that took place at a Green Light location on the city’s westside.
On January 25, at approximately 8:25 p.m., scouts responded to an armed robbery at a Green Light partner in the 13600 block of Grand River. The location was also being monitored by analyst at the Real Time Crime Center.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to restaurant employees who stated that the suspect walked into the location and proceeded to the back of the store. After a short period of time, the suspect reappeared and approached the counter. The suspect placed a black bag on the counter, removed a knife from his waistband and demanded money from the cashier in which she complied. After taking the money, the suspect fled the location.
After reviewing footage of the incident, analyst from the Real Time Crime Center and DPD officers were able to determine the suspect’s identity. The suspect’s photo and information was distributed to officers in the area. Units in the area followed up on the information and located the suspect at a residence on the city’s east side. A search warrant was executed at the residence and the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as 27-year old Leonard Matthew of Detroit. He was taken to the Detroit Detention Center and processed.
A warrant package was submitted to the Wayne County Prosecuting Office and approved. Leonard Matthew was charged for one count of Armed Robbery. He was arraigned on January 27, 2019 and received a $50,000 cash bond.
