CASCO TOWNSHIP, MI – A 29-year-old Richmond man was killed early this morning in a one car crash in Casco Township.
According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an unknown crash in the 9500 block of St. Clair Highway shortly after 1:30 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered a 29-year-old Richmond man, Adam Higgins, had been driving westbound, when he lost control of his 1999 Dodge Ram pickup. The truck went off the road and struck two trees. Higgins was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The incident has been turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. At this time it is unknown what caused the crash.
Richmond Fire and Rescue and Richmond-Lenox EMS also assisted at the scene of the crash.
Obituary for Adam Lee Higgins
Adam Lee Higgins, 29-years-old, of Lenox Township, died as a result of an automobile accident, Thursday, February 7, 2019.
He was born August 11, 1989, in Port Huron the son of David Lee and Carol-Ann (Martindale) Higgins.
Adam was a 2007 Richmond High School graduate. Following graduation from High School, he attended Macomb County Community College and graduated on the Deans’ List from the comprehensive automotive training program, which led to working as a heavy equipment mechanic for over 12 years for DNR Customs, Esper Farms, MTA Transport, and ML Chartier. Adam was an active member of the Columbus Bible Church. He was most recently employed as a Lineman Apprentice with the IBEW Local #17. Adam played Little League Baseball in Richmond for eight years with his dad David being the head coach. In the year 2000 the team achieved first place in the major-minor league and in the year 2002 they were the major district champs. He was a cub scout as a kid and he enjoyed bowling.
Adam loved being outdoors and liked kayaking, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and riding dirt bikes. He was always willing to help anyone, anytime, anywhere. Adam loved hunting with his dad, tractor and truck pulling and was a member of the Eastern Michigan Tractor and Truck Pulling Association and the Thumb Tractor Pulling Association. He loved animals and most importantly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his mother Carol-Ann are grandparents, Eddie and Janet Higgins of Columbus Twp. and Linda Martindale of Florida; aunts and uncles, Judy (Mark) Covert of Clyde Township, Christine Martindale of Wales Township, John (Kim Schmidt) Martindale II of Wales Township; his longtime girlfriend Kelly Fanale; cousins, Matthew (Jessica) Covert, Andrew, Kenny, and Jonathon Panczyk, and Lauren and Caleb Schmidt; as well as many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father David July 9, 2018, grandfather, John Martindale and cousin, Jaclynn Covert Hildebrandt.
The family honors the memory of Adam and invites you to visit and share memories Monday, February 11, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, with 10:00 a.m. visiting at Columbus Bible Church, Columbus Township. Pastor Jim Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery.
