ALPENA, MI – Michigan State Police Troopers from the Alpena post responded to a one vehicle semi crash in Alpena Township on Thursday afternoon, February 7th, 2019.

The driver advised he lost control on icy roads along US-23 near Squaw Bay. The driver was transported to MidMichigan Health and treated for minor injuries. Upon release he was cited for Violation of the Basic Speed Law.

Squaw Bay is an area of marsh and waterway of Lake Huron that is just south of Alpena. The roadway is exposed to the elements due to the fact that US-23 travels through the bay and there is little to stop mother nature to protect the highway from becoming dangerous during the winter months. Northeast Michigan was hit with freezing rain which resulted in very slick and slippery roads throughout the region.
