PONTIAC, MI – On Monday February 12th, 2019, at about 4:00PM, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded to E. Columbia Avenue on the report of a 10-month-old child who was not breathing.
Upon their arrival, Deputies found that Paramedics from the Waterford Regional Fire Department were already on scene and were administering CPR to the child. The child was transported to St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital Oakland by Paramedics from Star EMS. The child’s mother stated that she had put the child down for a nap inside of his crib two hours prior and that when she went to check on him, she found that he was not breathing. Emergency Room staff were unsuccessful in reviving the child. The child was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician. Child Protective Services was notified.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Detectives responded to begin their investigation. An evidence technician was requested and responded to process the scene. There were no obvious signs of trauma to the child. There was a heavy blanket and pillow in the crib. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified of the child’s death. Deputies escorted the child from the hospital to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy was performed today and cause of death is pending toxicology report. Foul play is not suspected.
