SOUTHGATE, MI – Charges are expected to be filed against a 17-year-old girl who lied to police that she had been stopped by a fake cop in the city of Southgate.
On Friday February 28, 2019, a 17 year girl, Faith Gentry, reported that she was stopped in the area of Fort Street and Eureka Road by what she described to the police and several media outlets as by a “Fake Cop”.
The report was investigated swiftly by both the Southgate and Wyandotte Police Departments. It was found early in the investigation that the story was not matching up with the facts.
Over the weekend the Gentry confessed to Southgate investigators that she was not stopped by a “Fake Cop” and that she in fact fabricated the story.
City of Soutgate Police stated “Public Safety is our main concern and we cannot have or tolerate Hoax’s and fear being put into our residents minds. The Police Officers out working the streets of Downriver cannot do their jobs efficient and effective with this type of behavior.”
Charges will be filed later this week to the Wayne County Prosecutors Office against the girl for reporting and filing a false police report.
