DETROIT, MI – James Bishop Craft, III, 22-years-old, of Detroit, is being charged in connection with the arson that occurred at an apartment building in Detroit.
On Friday March 22nd, 2019, at approximately 10:47 a.m., the Detroit Fire Department responded to an active fire of an occupied building in the 12200 block of Schaefer Hwy in Detroit.
The Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire and remove all of the occupants from the building. A 16-year-old occupant from one of the apartments sustained significant burns to her body and medics transported her to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the apprehension of Craft.
It is alleged that James Craft firebombed the apartment building. Further facts and evidence will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.
James Craft has been charged with First Degree Arson. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in 36th District Court.
