INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI – On March 14th, 2019, a pedestrian was struck while in his wheelchair on Clintonville Road north of Fay Street in Independence Twp. at approximately 10:13pm.
Sheriff’s Office Deputies, the Independence Township Fire Department, and Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit Investigators responded to the scene.
The victim was identified as Albert Russell Orsette, an 83-year-old resident of Independence Twp. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit was notified today that Mr. Orsette has passed away as a result of his injuries from this incident on April 8th.
A 29-year-old female employee of Clarkston Specialty and resident of the City of Flint was also injured in the crash as she was attempting to assist with moving Mr. Orsette out of the roadway. She was treated, released, and is recovering from her injuries.
Both victims were struck by a northbound vehicle described by witnesses as possible a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo or a vehicle with a similar body style with possible red striping or lettering on the front. The suspect vehicle would have front passenger-side damage.

This hit and run incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
