Jackson County Deputy’s Shoot and Kill Armed Flint Man

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, MI – Sheriff Steve Rand reports on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 9:05pm, Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the 1300 block of Westlane Drive in Summit Township for a domestic dispute.  Deputy Involved Shooting

While attempting to locate the suspect in the residence a 34-year-old man from Flint opened fire on Deputies. One deputy was struck multiple times. Deputies returned fire and the suspect died of his injuries.

The injured deputy was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Deputies involved in this incident will be placed on administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation by the major crimes task force and review by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney per department policy.

The investigation has been turned over to the Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force. The task force is made up of Detectives from the City of Jackson Police, Blackman Leoni Department of Public Safety, and the Michigan State Police and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff. Members of the Sheriff’s Office will not be participating in the investigation because of the direct involvement in the incident. Any further statements regarding this incident will be from Chief Elmer Hitt or members of the task force.
