NEWBERRY, MI – On Thursday April 18th, 2019, at approximately 7:00 pm, Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post were contacted near the MSP Newberry Detachment by a citizen reporting a subject broke into his home, fired several shots at him, and struck him with the firearm.
The victim was able to flee the residence and report the assault to police.
The suspect, found to be related to the victim, was located at his own residence in Newberry at approximately 11:00 pm. The suspect refused to turn himself over to law enforcement officers. Troopers and deputies from the Luce County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the MSP Emergency Support Team (EST). EST members arrived on scene and negotiated with the suspect for several hours.
The suspect eventually gave up and was taken into custody at approximately 2:20AM, on Friday April 19th. No one was injured in this incident which remains under investigation.
