Seventeen-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Van Buren Township Car Crash

DETROIT, MI – Micaiah Carlin Minor, 17-years-old, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that killed John Robert McElreath, 64-years-old, that occurred in Van Buren Township.Micaiah Carlin Minor

On May 7th, 2019, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Van Buren Township Public Safety officers were dispatched to the area of Belleville Road and Ecorse Road in response to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the officers discovered John McElreath in his vehicle, which had sustained significant damage, and had come to rest in an open grass field.

EMS responded to the crash site. They transported John McElreath to a local hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Micaiah Minor was found in a damaged vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that Micaiah Minor, an unlicensed driver, was driving southbound on Belleville Road at a high rate of speed, when he disregarded a red light crossed over the double yellow line and into northbound traffic, striking the victim in his car.

Micaiah Minor has been charged with Murder – Second Degree. He is expected to be arraigned on Saturday, May 11, 2019 after 11:00 a.m. in 34th District Court.
