LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI – A suspected drunk female driver sustained life threatening injuries in a two vehicle crash on Red Arrow Highway late Saturday night.
At approximately 10:15pm, om May 11th, 2019, Michigan State Police Troopers (MSP) from the Niles Post responded to a personal injury crash on Red Arrow Hwy south of Linco Rd in Lake Township.
The investigation determined a pickup truck was traveling southbound on Red Arrow Hwy in the left lane. A Grand Marquis was also traveling southbound on Red Arrow Hwy at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Grand Marquis attempted to pass the pickup truck on the left by crossing the center lane into the northbound lanes of Red Arrow Hwy. The Grand Marquis clipped the left rear of the pickup truck. That vehicle crossed both lanes of north bound Red Arrow Hwy, went off the roadway and struck several trees.
Both the driver and passenger of the Grand Marquis were trapped in their vehicle. After the driver and passenger were freed, they were transported to Lakeland Hospital where the driver sustained life threatening injuries and the passenger had serious injuries.
Alcohol was suspected as a cause of the crash. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time.
The occupants of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries and incurred only minor damage to their vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
The State Police was assisted by the Lincoln Twp PD, Baroda-Lake PD and the Baroda-Lake Fire Department.
