Eastpointe Man Charged in Robbery and Fatal Shooting Over Cartier Glasses


DETROIT, MI – Mario Martinez Buthia, 20-years-old, of Eastpointe, will face a judge today, May 31st, 2019, and be formally charged in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of Nathan Garrett, 18-years-old, also of Eastpointe.Mario Martinez Buthia

On May 25th, 2019, at 11:23 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a shooting at a gas station located in the 11000 block of East Seven Mile Road. It is alleged that Mario Buthia attempted to take the victim’s Cartier glasses and when he resisted Buthia shot him in the abdomen. Nathan Garrett received medical treatment from medics at the scene and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to the gunshot wound.

An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of Mario Buthia on May 28th, 2019.

Mario Buthia has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and four counts of Felony Firearm. He is expected to be arraigned on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in 36th District Court.
