Grand Blanc Man Found Guilty on Multiple Counts of Child Abuse after Vehicle Crash

LAPEER, MI – On Saturday April 2nd, 2016, at 1:34 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and investigated a single vehicle traffic crash on Genesee Road near Maple Leaf Road in Lapeer.Richard Page

A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix departed the roadway striking a guard rail, traveling along a ditch, stuck a utility pole, and eventually struck two trees before coming to rest overturned within a ditch.

The driver, Richard Page, 34-years-old in the year 2016, from Grand Blanc, was seriously injured. Page’s girlfriend and mother of his children, 32-years-old in the year 2016, from Grand Blanc, was also seriously injured. There were two children in the vehicle ages 35 months and 8 months old. The children were in the back seat when the collision occurred. One child sustained non-life threatening injuries and the second was unharmed.

Richard Page was criminally charged in Lapeer County. In July of 2017, Page entered a plea agreement and was sentenced to the Michigan Department of Corrections for 3 to 5 years for one count of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and one count of driving while license suspended causing serious injury.

In May of 2018, the 40th Circuit Court of Lapeer County granted an appeal by Page. Page was transferred from the Michigan Department of Corrections to the Lapeer County Jail with a bond set but he remained incarcerated. A four day Circuit Court Jury Trial started on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019 in the 40th Circuit Court of Lapeer.

During the trial, Lapeer County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney David Campbell admitted evidence that Richard Page’s driver’s license was suspended, the vehicle’s speed prior to the collision was 96 MPH within a 55 MPH zone, and that blood alcohol levels significantly exceeded twice the legal limit of .08 percent in Michigan.

On Friday May 31st, 2019, a Lapeer County Jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before returning with a guilty verdict on all criminal charges.

  1. Child abuse (multiple counts)
  2. Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury (multiple counts)
  3. Operating while license suspended causing serious injury (multiple counts)
  4. Child Endangerment (occupant less than 16 years old- multiple counts)

Page is scheduled for sentencing within the 40th Circuit Court of Lapeer County on Monday July 22nd, 2019.
