JACKSONVILLE, FL – On Tuesday June 11th, 2019, a tip for the FBI office in Detroit concerning possible criminal activity in the Jacksonville area was received concerning armed robberies. This put authorities in Jacksonville on high alert. As a result, two of the four men arrested were from Detroit.
The FBI has been investigating an organization that has been committing smash-and-grab robberies at jewelry stores in multiple states. Several of those have been Jared Jewelry Stores in various states which included Michigan.
The Detroit FBI office received a tip from a confidential informant about the crime ring and what they believed to be very credible information. The Detroit FBI office alerted the FBI in Jacksonville. They informed the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office that one of the suspects was tracked from Michigan to Jacksonville, which led to the stakeout at the Jared at St. Johns Town Center.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office surveillance team observed the suspects exit a vehicle and enter the business of Jared Jewelry. The suspect vehicle was blocked in by police and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT approached the door. The suspects fled out the door and were apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
The suspects had entered the business armed with hammers and broke the glass on the display cases which contained several thousand of dollars worth of jewelry.
Two of the suspects are ex-cons from Michigan with arrests for violent crimes based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Delano Ross, 28-years-old, of Detroit, has served time for armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and weapons charges. He had just been released from prison in March of 2019.
John Davis, 29-years-old, of Detroit, served time for home invasion and weapons charges. He was released from prison in May of 2018.
The investigation continues with multiple agencies involved in several states.
