PONTIAC, MI – A 30-year-old Lincoln Park man was arraigned on charges in relation to his attempted kidnapping of a child on Saturday June 15th, 2019.
At about 10:15AM, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Star Liquor Store located in the 10 block of East Auburn Road on the report of an attempted kidnapping.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke to the complainant who stated a man attempted to grab her 3-year-old daughter. The mother yelled at the suspect, who is now identified as Stevie Hutchins, 30-years-old, of Lincoln Park, to step away. Hutchins stepped away then came back and grabbed the girl again and tried to pull the child away from her mother. A friend of the mother displayed a can of mace and pointed it in his direction. The suspect let go of the child and fled the store on foot, traveling eastbound on East Auburn Road.
Deputies located Stevie Hutchins walking along East Auburn Road near Shirley Street where he was taken into custody without incident.
Hutchins was transported to the scene where he was positively identified by the mother. He was then transported to the Pontiac Substation to be interviewed by Detectives. After being interviewed, the suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges.
The suspect has a current mental health order from Wayne County Circuit Court and a valid misdemeanor from Lincoln Park PD.
Stevie Hutchins has been formally charged with Attempt-Kidnapping-Child Enticement which is a 5-year felony.
Stevie Hutchins was arraigned on 6/18/19 at the 50th District Court in front of the Honorable Judge Rhonda Gross. Bond was denied. A probable cause conference was scheduled for 6/27/19 in front of the honorable Judge Michael Martinez.
