Body Recovered of Drowning Victim from Round Lake in Mecosta County

MORTON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday, July 8th, 2019, at approximately 11:49AM, the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Dive Team recovered the body of Richard Jones, 68-years-old, of Belding MI. Jones was recovered after an extensive search of Round Lake, located in Morton Township.police-raid 800x533

Richard Jones had been boating with family and had jumped into the water around 5:00PM on Saturday, July 7th, 2019. Jones showed no sign of external injury and is believed to have died due to an unknown event causing him to drown. Jones was an experienced swimmer. There was no sign of any outside factors that would have contributed to the drowning.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the search and recovery efforts by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Division, the Michigan State Police Marine Services Unit, Morton Township Fire / Rescue, and Mecosta County EMS.

Round Lake is located south east of Big Rapids.
