CHEBOYGAN, MI – The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a rollover accident on July 17th, 2019 at 10:33am.
The investigation revealed the 18-year-old female driver from Alanson and the lone occupant of her vehicle was traveling southbound on M-33 near Hackmatack Rd. She was driving a 2004 Pontiac Vibe when she traveled across lanes and down into the ditch area. The vehicle traveled another 800 feet before impacting a culvert and driveway then rolling over.
The 18-year-old driver was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Upon further investigation it was determined that the driver was allegedly huffing an aerosol substance which caused her to immediately pass out and lose control of her vehicle.
“This is a tragic situation where a young female attempting to get high while driving not only placed her life in jeopardy but the lives of those in the area. This shows how much of a grip an addiction can have on a person. Thankfully no one else was hurt or killed and hopefully this young lady can eventually get the help she needs” said Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont.”
The Cheboygan County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the investigation at this time regarding charges.
