BUCHANAN TOWNSHIP, MI – Four people were killed today when an alleged speeding drunk driver slammed into the victims vehicle near N. Main and Miller Road in Berrien County.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened on N. Main and Miller Road in Buchanan Township on August 2nd, 2019 at 12:07PM.
Four individuals lost their lives in the tragic crash.
A 2007 Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed on Miller Road when it is believed to have disregarded a stop sign striking a southbound 2000 Honda Accord.
There were four individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord. All four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord have been identified as:
- Driver – Robert Klint, 66-years-old, of Sawyer.
- Passenger – Kent Williamson, 52-years-old, of Virginia
- Passenger – Melissa Klint, 60-years-old, of Sawyer
- Passenger – Landyn Klint, 22-years-old, of Sawyer
The driver and passenger of the 2007 Ford Fusion were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment. Alcohol and speed appears to be a factor in the investigation.
The driver of the Ford Fusion is identified as Dub Alan Collins, 53-years-old, of Buchanan. He is currently being held on a Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Detainer and he is currently hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana for treatment of the injuries he sustained in this crash.
It appears that Dub Collins troubles date back as far as 2002. He was previously convicted and has spent time in prison for:
- Operating/Maintaining a Lab Involving Methamphetamine in 2014
- Larceny From a Motor Vehicle in 2006
- Controlled Substance-Delivery/Manufacture Marijuana in 2002
Dub Collins was placed on Parole in December of 2018.
The passenger of the 2007 Ford Fusion was Heather Renee Collins, 39-years-old, of Buchanan. She is currently hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana for treatment of the injuries she sustained in this crash.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit was activated. The police report and investigative findings will be forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office in the next few days for review, so that a determination can be made on possible additional criminal charges being sought against Dub Collins.
The investigation remains open pending further investigation.
