Woman Dead after Shots Fired during Basketball Game in Rouge Park

DETROIT, MI  – A 27-year-old man has been arrested for his possible involvement in a fatal shooting that took place in Rouge Park on the west side of the city Saturday evening, August 3rd, 2019, around 7:20PM.Messy Frankie

Detroit Police are looking for three to four other suspects that all fled on foot from the basketball courts near the intersection of Spinoza and Brennan Pool drives in Rouge Park where a basketball game turned deadly when an alleged argument broke out between two men.

One of those two men began to walk away but both are believed to have produced weapons and began firing at each other. Witnesses stated that the other suspects who Detroit Police are searching for pulled their weapons and began firing shots during the chaos.

At this time it is unconfirmed how many people were shot and how many actual persons were shooting at the victims but it is being reported that there were up to five possible shooters.

A 30-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were both struck by gun fire. Neither of those two were involved in the initial argument. The woman, identified on social media as Messy Frankie, Francesca ‘Frankie’ Marks, died while she was being driven to the hospital to get treatment for her injuries. Frankie died in a 7-11 parking lot at Joy and Telegraph roads. She was shot while trying to rush her children and others to safety when the gunfire erupted. She leaves behind 7 young children.

The 29-year-old male victim was transported to a local area hospital. His injuries were non-fatal and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Motor City 911 captured information from DPD Central Dispatch. They have reported the following:

  • One suspect is described as a light skinned black male, wearing yellow/green shorts, no shirt. Last seen on foot East bound on Plymouth Rd.
  • Another suspect is described as a black male, no shirt, long dreads , gray shirt, gray shorts with red stripes, last seen on foot South bound through park.
  • A possible 3rd shooter is described as having short hair, brown khaki shorts, no shirt.  Fled the scene in an unknown direction.
  • A possible 4th shooter is described as a black male with a ponytail braided in the back. Witnesses say he shot the now deceased woman. He fled the scene in an unknown direction.

All suspects fled the basketball court area on foot in varying directions.
