Victim in Fort Gratiot Fatal Crash Identified

FORT GRATIOT, MI – James R. “Jimmy” “Boo” Gorrell Jr, a 44-year-old Burtchville Township man, was driving westbound on Metcalf Road, east of State Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. Gordell crossed the centerline of the road in his 2004 Ford Focus and struck head-on a 2014 GMC Acadia, driven by 69-year-old Kimberly Morrison of Metamora.

Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene and discovered the two vehicles in the roadway. Metcalf Road was closed down between State Road and Lakeshore Road (M-25), while an investigation into the crash took place.

James Gorrell was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Morrison was transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to McLaren Port Huron Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Fort Gratiot Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene of the crash.

It is unknown why Gorrell crossed the centerline. The crash remains under investigation.
