DETROIT, MI – The Wayne County Prosecutors Office received a warrant request yesterday, Tuesday August 20th, 2019, for the suspect in connection with the fatal dog mauling of nine-year-old Emma Hernandez that occurred in Southwest Detroit.
The warrant request is currently being reviewed, and a charging decision is expected late this afternoon. Further information will be released when a decision has been made. An arraignment is not expected today.
The 9-year-old was riding her bike Monday when she was mauled to death by three pit bulls on Detroit’s southwest side. The owner of those animals was arrested Monday following the attack

Funeral arrangements for Emma Hernandez are as follows:
Visitation will take place on Friday, August 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Professional Mortuary Services in Detroit. There will be a family hour from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., as well as a 6:00 p.m. Rosary service.
Funeral Servces will be held on August 24th at St. Cunegunda Catholic Church. A final viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until the Mass that begins at noon.
Emma will be buried at Woodmere Cemetary.
A vigil will be held for Emma Hernandez on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Hedwig Park.
