FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI – At approximately 6:02am today, Saturday August 31st, 2019, troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post were dispatched to a two-vehicle injury crash near the intersection of N Monroe Street and Hurd Road.
Upon arrival on scene, further investigation led to the discovery the crash was a result of an intentional act by the suspect driver. Troopers determined the following sequence of events: A Chevrolet Equinox driven by the suspect driver was traveling north on N Monroe Street. A Toyota Camry was traveling south on N Monroe Street. The suspect driver intentionally crossed the centerline and drove towards the Toyota. The driver of the Toyota attempted to avoid the suspect vehicle, but the two vehicles collided.
The suspect driver and both occupants of the Toyota were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is still currently under investigation.
Charges of Second Degree Attempted Murder are expected to be handed to the suspect driver.
Troopers were assisted by personnel from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Frenchtown Township Fire Department, City of Monroe Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance.
N Monroe St was closed for a short time while the Michigan State Police collected evidence and measured the scene. All lanes of travel have since been re-opened.
