ALPENA, MI – Michigan State Police Troopers – Alpena Post dealt with a call concerning a woman with a loaded gun incident. After some tense moments, they finally got her into custody following a brief pursuit.
On Saturday August 31st, 2019, at approximately 10:00AM, troopers were dispatched to a well-being check of a 54-year-old woman that was said to be suicidal, intoxicated, and driving in an unknown direction with a loaded handgun. Troopers located the woman outside of her home in the 9000 block of M32 West in Alpena County.
Once on scene, the troopers witnessed the woman brandish a handgun and point it across the highway of M32 West. Officers immediately stopped all traffic both east and west bound and also evacuated nearby residences.
During the attempts to establish communications with the woman, she went inside of her home and then exited with a loaded rifle. She then got into her car and left her home traveling westbound on M32. Troopers pursed her for a short distance when they saw her pull into the driveway of an unknown residence on the southside of the highway.
Troopers immediately positioned their patrol cars around the female suspects vehicle from the highway. She refused all verbal commands from the troopers to drop the rifle and walk away from her vehicle. She once again got back into her car leaving the unknown residence property where she again headed westbound on M32.
Following a short pursuit, she finally stopped her vehicle and was taken into custody. The rifle was immediately seized.
She was later lodged in the Alpena County Jail. She is now facing charges of resisting and obstructing a police officer, fleeing and eluding, operating a vehicle with intoxicated and possessing a firearm while under the influence.
No one involved in the incident was injured.
The female suspects name has not yet been released pending arraignment.
The Michigan State Police were assisted by the Department of Natural Resources and the City of Alpena paramedics.
