WEST OLIVE, MI – Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office detectives are continuing the investigation into the fatal hit and run crash that occurred early Monday morning that resulted in the death of 41-year-old Melissa Yates.
On Wednesday September 11th, 2019, detectives met with the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorneys Office in reference to the case. Detectives presented evidence to the Prosecuting Attorneys Office that led to the charging of two individuals in this incident.
One of the suspects is charged with driving the vehicle that struck Melissa Yates and the other suspect is charged with an assault (separate act) that occurred in the parking just moments prior to the fatal crash.
The driver of the vehicle, Sebastian Abel Villarreal, 22-years-old, of Holland City, is charged with Failure to Stop at the Scene of Accident when at Fault Resulting in Death, and Habitual Offender 3rd Notice.
The suspect in the associated assault, Eliud Rey Vazquez, 17-years-old, of Holland Township, is being charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder.
At this time the two suspects, Sebastian Villarreal and Eliud Vazquez, are not currently in custody.
