Mason County Man Dies Days after Rollover Accident

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, MI – At 10:46 PM on Monday September 2nd, 2019, Deputies with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on Benson Road north of Borowski Road in Mason County’s Sheridan Township.

Deputies arrived and found a 1998 GMC pickup, which had been traveling northbound on Benson Road, when the driver crossed the centerline, ran off the opposite side of the roadway, rolled over and struck a power pole.

The driver, James Russell Davidson, 50-years-old, from Fountain, MI, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed with the Jaws of Life. James Davidson was flown to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids where he was listed in critical condition until he passed away on Wednesday September 11th, 2019.

The crash was unwitnessed so the time of the crash is unknown. Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Fountain Area Fire & Rescue and Life EMS also responded to the crash.
