Hundreds of Dollars in Counterfeit Money Seized in Alpena County

ALPENA, MI – During the past week the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office and the Alpena City Police Department have been investigating counterfeit money being passed at businesses within Alpena County.

On Friday September 13th, 2019 an Alpena City Police Sergeant executed a traffic stop in the 500 block of Sable Street.  The sergeant was assisted by a sergeant from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office.  Law enforcement on scene recognized the subject as being the same individual captured on store surveillance video in connection with the passing of counterfeit notes.

A short time later a vehicle previously used by the suspect was located at a residence in the city of Alpena.  A search warrant was executed at the residence where additional counterfeit money was seized.

The suspect is currently lodged in the Alpena County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
