MELVINDALE, MI – A 12-year-old boy from Melvindale has been charged in connection with threats made to Strong Middle School in Melvindale.
On September 15, 2019 at approximately 10:22 p.m., it is alleged that the juvenile issued a threat toward students at the Strong Middle School in Melvindale through a cell phone app. The Melvindale Police Department was notified of the social media threat and, through their investigation, identified the 12-year-old boy as the source of the threat.
The boy has been charged with one count of Threat to Commit an Act of Violence against the School, Employees or students and one count of Malicious Use of a Telecommunication Device. Both charges are misdemeanors in the adult system. If he is convicted, he will be sentenced as a juvenile with an appropriate sentence in the juvenile justice system.
The Preliminary Hearing was at the Juvenile Detention Facility, 1326 St. Antoine, Detroit, MI before Magistrate Leslie Graves at 1:30 p.m. today. He received a $7500 personal bond and will have a Pre-Trial Hearing before Referee Sean Kerman on September 27, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
