INKSTER, MI – On Friday September 20th, 2019, Michigan State Police announced they had made an arrest in the murder of a 27-year-old man in Inkster.
Detectives and evidence techs from the FBI conducted searches today in Westland to recover evidence for this investigation. There was no danger to the community.
A 27-year-old man, identified as Joseph K. Benson, from Inkster, was found dead in the street on September 13th. Joseph Benson’s body was found at the intersection of Western and Oakwood streets. They said that he died after a Thursday evening altercation.
The Special Investigation Section arrested the suspect for the murder and the prosecutor’s office charged him with Felony Murder and 7 other Felony counts. Cleve Ransaw, 26-years-old, from Wayne, was arraigned on an 8 count felony warrant.
The following charges were authorized:
First degree murder,
Assault with deadly weapon
Felony firearm (3 counts) and
Ransaw was video arraigned yesterday afternoon and was given no bond.
Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Cleve Ransaw was previously convicted for the following:
- Armed Robbery
- Weapons – Felony Firearms
- Controlled Substance-Delivery/Manf., Nar/Coc <50 Grams
- Controlled Substance-Possess Narcotic/Cocaine < 25 Grams
He was released from custody from MDOC on March 15th, 2019.
