CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI – This morning Macomb County Prosecutor Eric J. Smith authorized charges against a 26-year old man for the murder of his wife, Nicole (Nikki) LaRocca, this past weekend.
Kyle Wonsowicz, of Clinton Township, is charged with 2nd-degree murder and felony firearm, a life felony and 2-year felony respectively, for shooting his wife late Saturday night, in a family home. Nikki LaRocca passed away in the hospital due to her injuries.
Police and prosecutors allege that dispatch received calls of shots being fired and a white male outside threatening to shoot someone Sunday evening in the area of 14 Mile and Gratiot Avenue.
This was the second time that evening officers were dispatched to the area due to calls about loud arguing and shots being fired. Officers arrived on the first call to find both Kyle Wonsowicz and Nikki LaRocca in good spirits, claiming no domestic violence had occurred. In fact they were barbequing and enjoying a bonfire.
However, upon arriving at the residence for the second round of calls of concern, officers observed Wonsowicz, wearing just boxer shorts, holding and racking a shotgun in front of the home. Officers were able to take the defendant to the ground and place him under arrest.
Police immediately conducted a security sweep of the home and found Nikki LaRocca in the family room. It was determined that she was the wife of Kyle Wonsowicz. She had been shot in the head at a close range. Still conscious, but unable to speak, police and first responders provided her with medical attention and transported her to the hospital for further treatment. Regrettably, the nature of the gunshot wound and head trauma resulted in the Nikki’s death.
“The disregard for human life displayed by this defendant is appalling,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Eric J. Smith. “The sad irony is that October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Yet, in the past week and a half, my office has received three cases of domestic violence resulting in murder. Please, if you or someone you know is in a dangerous situation, reach out for help.”

Kyle Wonsowicz is expected to be arraigned this afternoon, in 41-B District Court, Clinton Township.
The following Criminal warrant was issued for Kyle Wonsowicz, 26-years-old, of Clinton Township:
Count 1) 2nd degree murder, life felony
Count 2) Felony Firearm, 2 year felony
