DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest who was involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on the city’s west side.
On Saturday, September 21st, 2019, at approximately 11:07 p.m., in the 16200 block of Schoolcraft Rd., a 77 year-old man, Lewis Putrus, was closing his party store for the night. Putrus was approached by an unknown suspect, who he believed was attempting to rob him. It was reported that he drew his weapon to defend himself, however the suspect who already had his handgun drawn fired several shots striking Lewis Putrus and fatally wounding him. After the incident the suspect fled westbound on Schoolcraft.
The suspect is described as a black male mid to late 20’s, 5’’8, 150 lbs, slim build, dark brown eyes, medium brown complexion, with a beard and goatee, wearing a white baseball cap, black hooded sweater, a black jacket with two white stripes on the right arm of jacket, and with black pants.
