Brothers Sentenced in Coney Island Fried Mushroom Case

DETROIT, MI – 61-year-old identical Detroit twins brothers convicted in connection with the June 21st, 2019, assault of a Coney Island worker after they were told the restaurant, Nickey D’s, did not serve fried mushrooms were sentenced today.

On June 19th, 2019, at 2:00 a.m., it is alleged that the 61-year-old twin brothers, entered a Nicky D’s Coney Island in the 15700 block of West 7 Mile and argued with patrons in the restaurant. The brothers, one armed with a metal pipe, and the other armed with a gun,  attacked a 40-year-old man after they were told the restaurant does not sell fried mushrooms.

The victim was beaten with the pipe and subsequently shot in his face. The defendants fled from the scene in a car. The Detroit Police Department asked the public for information about the incident and were able to apprehend the defendants.

Today Dwight Samuels was sentenced to 13 to 30 years on one count of Assault with Intent to Murder and five years on one count of Felony Firearm- Second Offense.

Duane Samuels was sentenced to 11 to 30 years on one count of Assault with Intent to Murder and two years on one count of Felony Firearm.
