CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Clinton Township Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a silver Chevy Equinox and a flatbed tow truck. The crash occurred around 4:39 pm on Sunday November 17th, 2019.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Chevy Equinox was N/B Groesbeck Hwy. moving with the flow of traffic. While in the left through lane of Groesbeck the vehicle began to drift left. The Chevy Equinox then struck a flatbed tow truck head-on in the S/B lane of Groesbeck Hwy. The tow truck attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The tow truck came to an uncontrolled stop where the driver remained on scene.
The operator of the Chevy Equinox was unconscious upon emergency services arrival. The operator was extricated by Clinton Twp. Fire and taken to McLaren Hospital by Medstar Ambulance. The operator, a 51-year-old woman from Clinton Twp., was pronounced dead shortly after.
It is unknown if the driver of the Chevy Equinox was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The driver of the tow truck is not suspect of either alcohol or drugs.
Groesbeck Hwy. is a five (5) lane road consisting of asphalt in good condition. The speed limit for the road is posted at 50 mph. The section of the roadway where the crash occurred was straight with no intersections that could have been involved.

Additionally, an unrelated drunk driving arrest was made on scene due to a vehicle attempting to drive through the scene. Several officers were in harms way as the vehicle initially refused to stop despite several officers, police cars, flares, and an Official tow company tow truck (unrelated to the fatal) blocking the roadway. The driver was taken into custody and is being held at CTPD pending bond and sobriety.
