CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI – An 86-year-old Clinton Township woman lost her life in a car crash Wednesday afternoon.
The Clinton Township Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a silver 2019 Buick Lacrosse. The crash occurred at about 5:21pm on Wednesday November 20th , 2019.
The preliminary investigation indicated the Buick Lacrosse was making a turn from W/B 15 mile rd onto N/B Garfield. The driver, a 92-year-old, from Clinton Township, ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole causing it to break an
assenger sustained life threatening injuries. When the pole broke, live electrical wires fell on the vehicle making rescue efforts impossible. During this time both passengers were conscious and alert.
Clinton Township drone pilot, Ofc. Biggers, flew a drone to the injured occupants in an effort to keep them calm. DTE responded as quickly as they could and to turn off the power so rescue efforts could be conducted. Unfortunately, the female passenger had lost consciousness during that time. Both occupants were taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital where the 86-year-old woman was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The deceased passenger was positively identified as Shirley Ann Tobalski, 86-years-old, from Clinton Township.
Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected in this crash.
The intersection of Garfield and 15 mile are both five (5) lane roads consisting of concrete in good condition. The speed limit for both roads is posted at 45 mph.
